August 2022 Update

Hello and welcome to this month’s blog post!

We hope you're enjoying this lovely summer – we're having a great time on The Matthew so far this year.

It’s been a busy time down at Bristol Harbourside - last month's Bristol Harbour Festival was tremendous fun and we had a wonderful couple of days in the roasting sunshine hosting the world premiere of Re:Verse Theatre's The Hamlet Voyage.

We hope you managed to get down to see it!

We also had an impromptu sunny Sunday afternoon visit in June from the rather marvellous Bloco B UK samba band and dancers, who went down an absolute storm!

Have a watch of our video (shot by our own Captain Rick!) for a taste of their brilliant performance.

We've also been lucky to have had some fantastic trips with some lovely people – and it's not over yet…

Coming up next

Public trips on The Matthew

Our Fish & Chips Trips and Avon Gorge Cruises have proved to be very popular this summer and keep on selling out, so we've also added a couple more dates towards the end of September.

You can also still book tickets for a selection of Harbour Trips later in August – come and join us in enjoying this beautiful weather and treat the kids before they go back to school!

Scroll down for all of our currently confirmed dates and click on the yellow button to buy your tickets online.

Bristol Shanty Festival

Also, coming up on Saturday 17 September is the (free!) Bristol Shanty Festival which will see various venues around Bristol Harbourside, including The Matthew, host some of the best shanty crews in the South West. This was a fabulous free event last year, as you can see from these photos (taken by one of our brilliant volunteers, Jane Fowler) and we’re delighted to be invited to be a venue for the festival again.

Visit our friends at Bristol Shanty Festival on Facebook for more details.

More Exciting news!

The Matthew of Bristol Trust is absolutely delighted to announce that fellow mariners and friends of the ship Timothy and Shane Spall have accepted their invitation to become patrons of The Matthew of Bristol.

They celebrated with a trip on a beautifully sunny Avon Gorge cruise last month - pictured here with the Captain.

Welcome to The Matthew family Timothy and Shane – we're so pleased to have you aboard!

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm

The Matthew is generally open for visitors when moored at Princes Wharf during these hours. However, please be aware that opening hours are subject to change without notice - get in touch with the office to make sure we're there if you're making a special trip to see us!

The Matthew Team

Matthew of Bristol

The Matthew that you see in Bristol today is a modern reconstruction of the original Matthew that John Cabot sailed to Newfoundland in 1497. It is a much-loved part of Bristol’s maritime heritage with a busy schedule of public boat trips, film and festival work, corporate and celebratory events.
