Winter at the matthew
Since this year's sailing season came to an end in October, we've been pretty quiet on the news front. However, the Captain and our volunteer crew have been kept very busy with The Matthew's annual maintenance programme, and the office staff have been busy behind the scenes, keeping everything ticking over and planning our sailing schedule for next year.
Volunteer guides wanted!
The Matthew of Bristol is largely maintained and run by a dedicated crew of volunteers and we’re always on the lookout for physically fit guides and crew to join us on board!

Our 2023 sailing season is almost upon us, so calling all teachers – now’s the time to get booking your school trip on The Matthew! Sessions are filling up fast, so get in touch soon to grab your preferred session…

2022 May Bank Holiday Weekend Festivities
In May 2022, 525 years after John Cabot’s famous 1497 voyage aboard the original Matthew, The Matthew of Bristol will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of its own crossing of the Atlantic to Newfoundland.

The Matthew of Bristol celebrates 25 Years!
2022 is a special year for The Matthew as it marks the 25th anniversary of the departure of the replica Matthew from the City and County of Bristol in 1997, exactly 500 years after the departure of the original Matthew from the Town and County of Bristol on 2nd May 1497.

July 2021 update
Following the government announcement that restrictions are ending as planned on July 19th, we're pleased to announce that, after a very tough 16 months for us all, we are able to operate The Matthew at her full capacity again.
