First trip dates for 2023

Welcome to our first blog post of 2023.

After an exciting and fun-packed 25th anniversary year in 2022, the Captain and crew have been busy all through the winter preparing The Matthew for our 2023 sailing season.

We've had a couple of days of welcome winter sunshine this month, which has turned our thoughts to warmer days – and with that in mind, we've been getting lots of enquiries about trip dates for this year, so we're very pleased to be able to announce our first batch of dates for the spring.

We've got Avon Gorge Cruises, Harbour Trips, Fish & Chips Trips, and two of our special Sea Shanty trips with The Harry Browns coming up, so there's something to suit everyone!

Scroll down to see all of our confirmed dates for April and May – tickets are on sale now.

Opening hours

We're still in the midst of our annual maintenance programme, so are currently operating under our winter opening hours for visitors to the ship. The crew have almost finished fixing, painting, varnishing and polishing so we'll be back to our summer opening hours on Tuesday 21st March:

Saturdays and Sundays: 10:30am to 3pm (last entry: 2:30pm)

Summer opening (from Tuesday 21 March):

Maintenance update!

Fixing the main hatch: located on the main deck, the hatch succumbs to all weathers so needs a bit of care and attention! The crew are currently making repairs to some of the wood.

Whether you're just visiting or are joining us on a trip, we look forward to welcoming you aboard!

Matthew of Bristol

The Matthew that you see in Bristol today is a modern reconstruction of the original Matthew that John Cabot sailed to Newfoundland in 1497. It is a much-loved part of Bristol’s maritime heritage with a busy schedule of public boat trips, film and festival work, corporate and celebratory events.
